The Museum of African American Collectibles and History will be a unique establishment and the first of its kind in Virginia. The mission of the museum is to educate the public on African American history through the use of original collectibles, artifacts and Black Americana . The museum will showcase The Lewis Collection, which contains over 700 African American items which makes up the 10 different galleries for people to explore. It is ideal that the museum will be located in the Richmond, VA/ Henrico County, VA area as a result of the rich African American history.
The development of the museum is greatly influenced by The Kinsey’s African American Art and History Collection, The Jim Crow Museum, The DuSable Museum and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. These museums and their collections have attracted millions of individuals, thus revealing success in achieving their social, community and economic goals and objectives.
The Museum of African American Collectibles and History will recognize and embrace African American history and culture through collectible artifacts and provide an educational experience like no other.
